There are many unusual hotels across the world. Some are more and some less unusual, but in the end unusuality is in the eye of beholder. We pulled up some and list is by all means incomplete. Feel free to leave comments with more unusual hotels for our part 2 of uncommon hotels.

10. Jumbo Hostel, Sweden

Fear of flying? This could be the right therapy for you. You can choose between a twin or a three-bed, a budget or even a luxury suite in the cockpit. The hotel is within an airplane built in 1976, and even offers a panoramic view of the airport.

9. Liberty Hotel, Boston, USA

This building was home to the criminals of Boston, as it was a jail for over 150 years. It was rest orated in 2007, but has kept its old looks and even the prison bars are intact, in order to provide a unique experience.

8. Igloo Village Kakslauttanen, Saariselkä, Finland

Igloo Village is a part of Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland, where you can lodge in traditional and unique futuristic igloos during winter season, and enjoy northern lights and the snow sights under the glass ceiling at room temperature.

7. Das Park Hotel, Linz, Austria

This unique hotel is the brainchild of Andreas Strauss who came up with the idea to convert sewer pipes to hotel rooms. Das Park Hotel is a friendly, creative, ecological and fun accommodation that will add the extra cherry on top of your stay in Austria.


6. Hotel Marqués De Riscal, Elciego, Spain

Built in 1858, it was originally a winery. Frank Gehry re-designed this astonishing structure into a City of Wine, with a five-star hotel, wine shop, viticulture museum and SPA.

5. Martello Tower, Aldeburgh, Suffolk, UK

The original purpose of this tower was to protect the shores against potential Napoleonic attack. Living with the wind, sea and rain in the echoing rooms it’s a truly unique historical experience.

4. Gamirasu Cave Hotel, Ayvali Village, Turkey

This hotel features 30 rooms in troglodyte cave. It was opened in 1999 and was made out of old Byzantine monastic retreat of one thousand years old. There are a bunch of activities available for visitors in the hotel as well as in the village.


3. Quinta Real Zacatecas, México

This unusual site was built in 19th century, and was a bullring where bullfights took place regularly. The last corrida was held in 1975. Since its restoration this beautiful hotel has preserved the feel of the original structure, and the former bullring in the centre was made into a colonial-style patio with flowers and romantic landscapes.

2. Hôtel de Glace, Quebec, Canada

This site is truly one of the most unique hotels in the world. Constructed out of ice and snow the hotel features facilities such as an ice bar, jazz suite, hockey suite and even an ice chapel. So if you are looking for a unique location for your marriage, this could be the right place.

1. Magic Mountain Hotel, Huilo Huilo, Chile

This amazing hotel is located in the Huilo Huilo nature reserve in Chile. The design of the hotel resembles a volcano, with water falling from the top sliding down the sides. This hotel offers you a mixture of nature and man-made facilities, offering you both comfort and a unique experience.
